Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty initiating sleep, maintaining sleep, and achieving good sleep quality. Acupuncture is one of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be used to help manage insomnia symptoms. This study aimed to determine the benefits of acupuncture care for a patient with insomnia and difficulty initiating sleep at the Acupuncture Laboratory of ITSK RS dr. Soepraoen Malang. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participant was a 21-year-old female who experienced insomnia with the main complaint of difficulty initiating sleep. Data were collected through the Four Diagnostic Methods of acupuncture, including observation, listening and smelling, inquiry, and palpation. Based on the examination findings, the participant was diagnosed with insomnia associated with Heart and Spleen Qi deficiency syndrome. Acupuncture care was administered in six sessions twice a week using HT-7 Shenmen, ST-36 Zusanli, SP-6 SanYinjiao, RN-6 Qihai, BL-20 Pishu, BL-15 Xinshu, and SP-9 Yinlingquan points with tonification techniques. The evaluation showed improvements in the participant’s condition. By the sixth session, the participant no longer experienced difficulty initiating sleep, appetite had improved, dizziness had disappeared, bowel movements became more regular, and stress was better controlled. Objective examination also showed improvements in eye brightness, facial expression, tongue condition, and pulse. These findings indicate that acupuncture care may help reduce insomnia symptoms, particularly difficulty initiating sleep.
