Abstract

Burnout is a condition of psychological exhaustion that can occur among healthcare workers due to the constant demands of their work. Work-life balance is considered one of the factors associated with this condition. This study aims to determine the relationship between work-life balance and burnout among healthcare workers at Hospital X. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 122 healthcare workers were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on work-life balance and burnout, then analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test at α=0.05. The majority of respondents reported high work-life balance (91.8%) and low burnout (85.2%). There was a significant association between work-life balance and burnout (p < 0.001; r = −0.765). The four dimensions of work-life balance are also significantly associated with burnout: work interference with personal life (p<0.001; r=-0.666), personal life interference with work (p<0.001; r=-0.689), personal life enhancement of work (p<0.001; r = −0.766), and work’s enhancement of personal life (p < 0.001; r = −0.680). The findings indicate that the better the work-life balance, the lower the level of burnout experienced by healthcare workers. The study’s findings underscore the importance of maintaining policies and a work environment that support work-life balance as part of efforts to prevent burnout.
