THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ACADEMIC STRESS AND MENSTRUAL CYCLE REGULARITY AMONG NURSING STUDENTS AT THE FACULTY OF HEALTH, SAMAWA UNIVERSITY

High academic and clinical practice demands can trigger academic stress, a mental health condition frequently experienced by nursing students. This condition can affect menstrual cycle regularity due to its impact on the hormonal system. This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic stress and menstrual cycle regularity among female nursing students at the Faculty of Health, Samawa University. A quantitative method with a cross-sectional design was employed. A total of 121 students from the Diploma III Nursing program and 42 students from the Bachelor of Nursing program were randomly selected from the population. The Perception of Academic Stress (PAS) scale was used to measure academic stress levels, while a questionnaire was used to collect data on menstrual cycle regularity. Data analysis was conducted using Fisher's Exact test and other univariate and bivariate techniques, with a significance level of 95% (α = 0.05). The majority of respondents reported moderate academic stress levels (50.8%), followed by high (36.5%) and low (12.7%) levels. Menstrual cycle irregularity was reported by 35 participants (55.6%). Based on Fisher's Exact test, no statistically significant relationship was found between academic stress and menstrual cycle regularity among female nursing students at the Faculty of Health, Samawa University (p > 0.05). To gain a deeper understanding of menstrual cycle regularity, future research should consider additional variables not covered in this study.
