Abstract

This study aims to analyze the conceptual reconstruction of Hijrah within Malaysia's official Ma'al Hijrah discourse and to formulate the 'Ma'al Hijrah Ecological Model' through Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory. Employing a qualitative approach within an intellectual history framework, the research analyzes state policy documents, official archives, field observations, and literature within the Malaysia MADANI framework. The findings reveal that Hijrah has been re-conceptualized from geographical migration (Hijrah Makaniyah) toward multidimensional transformation (Hijrah Ma'nawiyah), encompassing intellectual, spiritual, socio-digital, and human capital development. The ecological analysis demonstrates that value reproduction operates through inter-systemic relations across microsystems (individual and family), mesosystems (institutional synergies), exosystems (state policy), macrosystems (ideology and national identity), and chronosystems (historical memory). The Ma'al Hijrah discourse positions Hijrah as a structured mechanism connecting citizens, educational and religious institutions, and the state. This study concludes that contemporary Hijrah functions not merely as a historical symbol, but as a dynamic socio-ecological mechanism that enables Islamic values to be reproduced, negotiated, and sustainably actualized within modern Muslim societies.
